(CMR) The 2023 Deputy Governor's 5K Challenge was launched last week and will take place later this month in Cayman Brac on Sunday, April 16, in Little Cayman on Sunday, April 23, and in Grand Cayman on Sunday, April 30.
Kicking off the 2023 5K Challenge, Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson unveiled the new logo on Monday, 27 March. The launch event, held at the Government Administration Building, also recognized medallists from the 2022 Challenge and returning corporate sponsors.
This year’s events will support the Cayman Islands Red Cross, LOUD Silent Voices, and United Against Bullying Foundation.
“We have some outstanding charities that we have identified – LOUD Silent Voices, the United Against Bullying Foundation and the Cayman Islands Red Cross – they all do amazing work in our community so it’s an honor and a privilege to be able to work with them and to support them through the 2023 DG’s 5K Challenge,” Mr. Manderson said.
“I use my own health scare to tell people how important it is to get out and exercise, to eat right, and take care of your heart. This is a great opportunity to do that; The 5K ticks all of those boxes, so I encourage everyone to come out,” he added.
Continuing the firm’s long-standing support of the DG’s 5K Challenge, platinum sponsor Appleby has returned as the main sponsor of the 2023 event.
“This is our premier local initiative and a partnership that we are proud to champion every year. The event dovetails with our firm’s corporate social responsibility and our strong commitment to wellness within our workplace and community. The DG’s 5K Challenge has once again chosen three very worthy charities to benefit from this event, and we are delighted to be able to assist these valuable organizations in raising the additional funds needed to continue their service in the community,” said Appleby Managing Partner Norman Klein.
Gold sponsors of the 2023 Challenge are Davenport Development, Ernst & Young, Butterfield, the Cayman Islands Civil Service Association Cooperative Credit Union, and Dart.
The overall winners of the 2022 DG’S 5K Challenge were: Esmond Brown with a time of 17:28.90 and Olivia Shanks with a time of 20:22.90. The fastest civil servants were Abraham Whittaker with a time of 18:27.4 and Marike van der Merwe with a time of 22:01.8.
