(CMR) A family has been left devastated after camera footage revealed that their dog was intentionally run over by a driver. The dog is still alive but was injured in the shocking ordeal.
The dog was able to get outside after a five-year-old child accidentally left a door open at their West Bay residence. The dog wandered onto the roadway, where the driver of a white car could be seen apparently chasing the dog with the car. The dog was found covered in black dust and blood.
“This is a very quiet residential area, and we are shocked to see that these people were deliberately trying to kill her even though she was trying to get out of the way, they ran her over,” a member of the family told CMR.
The dog's owner, who is battling a serious illness, said the incident is very stressful for her.
“Lily is struggling to walk, and she has huge scrapes around her face and right eye, but she’s a strong girl and hanging on,” she said.
Under the Animals Act, it is an offense to be cruel to an animal in the Cayman Islands, the penalty is a fine and imprisonment.
