(CMR) Camana Bay has installed ten bat houses east of its residential community of OLEA, bringing the total number of bat houses up to 34 and adding a potential population of 400 new bats to the area.
This is of benefit to Cayman's local ecosystem, which relies on bats for the essential role they play in pest control, pollination, and seed dispersion, according to the Camana Bay Times .
The Camana Bay bat houses are made from recycled plastic and have a relatively small wind surface area, which allows them to withstand high winds during storms. Some of these bat houses can be spotted along the canals and trails throughout the town center.
