UPDATE: The 19-year-old Bodden Town man, who was arrested on Thursday, 12 January, for assaulting an off-duty policeman, has now been formally charged with assault ABH, assaulting police, and theft. He appeared in court on Monday, 16 January.
(CMR) A 19-year-old Bodden Town man who threatened and assaulted an off-duty policeman while he was at a service station earlier this week has been arrested.
Reports from the RCIPS are that shortly before 2:30 pm on Wednesday, 11 January, officers responded to a report of an assault at a service station on Walkers Road. The off-duty police officer in full uniform had been at the service station when he was approached by a man known to him.
The man reportedly made threats against him and assaulted him. A struggle ensued and the man then fled the location. The officer received minor injuries, attended the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment and was subsequently discharged.
At about 4:30 pm yesterday, 12 January, the Bodden Town man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police in relation to the incident. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
