(CMR) The Cayman Islands Ministry of Tourism is inviting applications for its annual scholarship, designed for students who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an approved tourism or tourism-related discipline.

Students should also demonstrate a need for financial assistance in order to achieve this goal.

For the past 26 years, the Ministry of Tourism scholarships has been awarded to hundreds of students as either full or partial scholarships to further their education locally or internationally.

The scholarship program is an effort on the part of the Ministry of Tourism to increase the number of Caymanians involved in the tourism sector, providing them with access to a strong educational foundation that will prepare them for up to senior-level positions.

“Tourism is a pillar of our economy and it is, therefore, essential that we provide young Caymanians with the foundation and qualifications needed to thrive in this industry,” Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Kenneth Bryan remarked.

“The government is investing heavily in training, and the scholarship program is just one of the many opportunities that the Department of Tourism is making available to our young people who wish to develop a career in tourism and hospitality,” he added.

In awarding this scholarship, the following criteria will be taken into account. Candidates applying for the tourism scholarship must be Caymanian and 17 years of age or older. They should have proof of having resided in the Cayman Islands for five years before application for the Ministry of Tourism Scholarship e.g. a letter from the most recent school attended or letter from their parent’s employer.

Applicants also need to produce proof of acceptance at a regionally accredited institution ranked competitive or higher and should be studying a program in Tourism or a tourism-related field. Applicants should be in good health and of good character. Two-character references are required: one academic and one from a non-relative should be submitted with the application.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, 31 January 2023.

The Ministry of Tourism scholarship application form can be accessed at www.scholarships.ourcayman.ky. For further information about the Ministry of Tourism scholarship,  contact the scholarship team via email at [email protected] or call 949-0623.
