(CMR) Hayley Nicole Grizzel, the second runner-up in Miss Cayman Universe, has been invited to represent the pageant on Cayman Airways' inaugural flight to Los Angeles, California, on Saturday.
CMR has been reliably informed that the first runner-up, Chloe Powery-Doxey, was not chosen because she has not been fully vaccinated. It is understood that initially, she did not have an interest in being vaccinated but changed her mind and started the process.
CMR understands that initially, she was adamant against getting vaccinated. However, the policy of Miss Universe does not permit unvacinated contestants to enter.
This is not the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that a pageant winner's vaccination status became an issue. Georgina Krawford, last year's winner, was also not vaccinated when she was crowned. As a result, she was unable to participate in the government's vaccine drive, which included media appearances for the DMS vaccine giveaway because of her vaccine status. She eventually got vaccinated in order to travel abroad for the 2021 Miss Universe pageant, which was held in Eilat, Israel.
Many countries maintain a vaccination requirement, including the United States for non-citizens.
The runners-up usually take on duites whenever the pageant winner is unable to do. In this case, the pageant winner is unable to represent Miss Cayman Universe due to her current case before the courts.
