(CMR) The Cayman Islands Veterans Association's annual Gala and official poppy pinning made a grand return last Saturday evening, 15 October. Veterans who have served the Cayman Islands and other countries were celebrated at the benefit event.
“As a community, we owe a debt of gratitude to our veterans for their service to Cayman and other countries. They have put their lives on the line so that all of us can live in peace, freedom and liberty. We should be grateful and appreciative of their contributions,” Governor Martyn Roper said.
“The Veterans Association ensures that veterans receive assistance and help when they need it. Many thanks to Andrew McLaughlin, his lovely wife Shadden, Paul Ebanks, and other members of the Association for all they do,” Governor Roper added.
Lt. General David A. Deptula USAF (Ret.) and MSgt. Karl I A. Vernado US ARMY (Ret.), were guest speakers at the event.
Governor Roper added that next year it is hoped that Brigadier The Lord Lancaster of Kimbolton, a member of the UK Army Reserve, and Honorary Colonel of the Cayman Regiment, and his wife Lady Lancaster, will attend the annual gala.
The public is invited to attend the Annual Remembrance Day Parade on Sunday, 13 November. During that weekend, the Privy Council of the UK (Supreme Court and final Court of appeal for Cayman) will be visiting Cayman.
