(CMR) The Cayman Islands was listed among ten countries that the United States has placed under its new “Level 3” Travel Advisories for people to “reconsider travel”. The US State Department tells US residents to reconsider travel to Cayman due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“Level 3” travel advisories are usually given to warn people of “risks to safety and security.” It is not clear if the Cayman Islands' decision to lift all travel restrictions for visitors is the reason for this advisory.
A “Level 3” advisory was also issued for Jamaica, urging people to reconsider travel due to crime. Some areas have increased risk, the travel advisory warned.
The US issued 81 new Travel Advisories, including four “Level 4” Travel Advisories for Russia, Central African Republic, Burkina Faso and Belarus. This level of advice warns Americans to “not travel” to these places because of “greater likelihood of life-threatening risks.”
Belize was issued a “Level 2” Travel Advisory due to increased crime, like armed robberies and sexual assault, especially in the south side of Belize City and other remote areas along the country's borders. These crimes are mostly gang-related and even take place during daylight hours and in popular tourist areas.
“Local police lack the resources and training to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents. Most crimes remain unresolved and unprosecuted,” the agency wrote.
