(CMR) A family in Jamaica has been left devastated after tragedy struck Sunday night when two brothers jumped from the Jaws Bridge on the island of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, USA. One of the brothers is dead, and the other is missing after they jumped off the bridge made famous in the 1975 movie “Jaws”.
Authorities, including several rescue teams, launched a search for the men after they did not return after jumping from the bridge. The body of Tavaris Bulgin (26) was recovered while Tavaughn (21) is still missing in the waters. Oak Bluffs Police Chief Jonathan Searle said the missing swimmer is presumed dead.
According to the Jamaica Gleaner, the parents of the brothers from Palmers Cross in Clarendon, Jamaica, had to be taken to the May Pen Hospital following the devastating news. Their father, Reverend Keith Bulgin, is the pastor of the Palmers Cross New Testament Church of God.
Reports are that the Bulgin brothers, who were in the US on a work/travel summer program, were among persons who, on Sunday night, jumped into the ocean from the ‘Jaws Bridge' in Martha's Vineyard.
The area is a popular spot for tourists. Although a sign is posted at the location indicating that diving is not allowed, hundreds of people continue to dive from the famous bridge. On Monday, while authorities searched for the missing man, several people were observed still diving at the location.
The search for the second brother was expected to continue on Tuesday.
