(CMR) Residents are being asked to stay vigilant due to the possibility of space debris from an empty Chinese rocket body expected to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere tomorrow, Saturday, 30 July, possibly beginning around 1:39 PM.
According to Hazard Management Cayman Islands, it will be an uncontrolled re-entry, and so it is difficult to predict precisely when re-entry will occur and, therefore in general, what areas may be affected.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has told government officials that the risk to Overseas Territories remains extremely low; however, the precise location, length, and size of the debris and the debris field are not known.
Hazard Management Cayman Islands is urging residents to be mindful this weekend as they go about activities and remain attentive to alert channels such as caymanprepared.ky and gov.ky which will be updated if any further information becomes available.
