(CMR) The Jamaican policeman implicated in the disappearance of his girlfriend Donna-Lee Donaldson is now in police custody. Constable Noel Maitland was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
The decision to take the police constable into custody was made after a review with the Director of Public Prosecutor, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey told local media on Wednesday. Based on the evidence, stakeholders believe the policeman should be held accountable for the disappearance of the social media influencer who was reported missing on 13 July.
The policeman's attorney Christopher Townsend said his client turned himself in to the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
There have been numerous protests by family and friends of Donaldson since her disappearance calling for the policeman and his child's mother, who is also a member of the JCF, to be arrested in the matter.
Donaldson was reported missing days after she was picked up by the policeman but did not return home. Family members said calls to her phone went unanswered.
