(CMR) A Jamaican man who overstayed in the Cayman Islands for 10 years was caught trying to leave the country on the passport of a man who was murdered four years ago. Dennis Augustus Ramsay was arrested in May as he attempted to board a flight to Honduras.
The passport was in the name of Dougmore Wright, who was shot and killed along Prospect Drive in Red Bay in March 2018. A Cayman Airways agent reportedly became suspicious of the passport due to air bubbles observed and the man's thick Jamaican accent. Customs and Border Control officers were alerted, and the man was arrested.
Ramsay was not connected to Wright's murder and reportedly paid $3,000 for the passport.
Ramsay pleaded guilty to overstaying and altering a travel document when he appeared before the Summary Court on Monday, 25 July. He is expected to return to court in September to be sentenced.
