(CMR) The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service arrested a man wanted for murder in Jamaica during an operation today, Friday 8 July. Police say shortly before 12.30 pm, they arrested Rudolph Almando Shaw, a 30-year-old man who is wanted for murder in Jamaica, in the vicinity of Seymour Road, George Town.
The authorities in Jamaica have been notified. He has since been formally processed and will be handed over to CBC.
During the operation, Firearms Response Unit officers in a marked service vehicle approached a vehicle with two occupants, one of whom was the wanted man. The occupants of the vehicle attempted to evade the police and rammed into the police vehicle, causing their vehicle to become disabled.
Armed officers approached and attempted to detain the men, who ignored instructions and attempted to flee. Police captured the wanted man, while the other man escaped on foot.
The man that escaped is approximately 5’9” in height, of slim build and dark complexion, with short hair, and wearing blue jeans and a white sleeveless shirt.
Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown said, “The Cayman Islands is not a safe haven for criminals. We are working with our colleagues in Jamaica on this case and believe the man arrived on island by boat. An active search is underway to locate and arrest the other person. It’s a criminal offence to aid or assist a person who is wanted by the authorities, including those who are here illegally.’’
Investigators are encouraging anyone with information about these men to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222 or dial 9-1-1, specifically if the circumstances are time-sensitive.
The public is being reminded that according to the Police Act (2021 Revision), it is an offense to obstruct, mislead or act in such a way as to prevent the apprehension of a person who has committed an offense. If prosecuted under this section, you may be liable on conviction to a fine of $5000 or imprisonment for two years or both.
