(CMR) The Monkeypox virus has been confirmed in Jamaica, Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton announced this afternoon, Wednesday, 6 July.
The confirmed case is a man who recently returned to Jamaica from the United Kingdom. The man went to the public health system on 5 July, five days after he arrived in the country.
Dr. Tufton said the patient had been isolated, and his close contacts were in quarantine. Contact tracing is also being done.
Last week, The Bahamas also recorded its first confirmed case of the virus in a traveler from the UK.
