(CMR) The Cayman Islands' special extended Jubilee holiday weekend will culminate on Grand Cayman, Monday, 6 June, where parade marches will take place at Government House.
The grand finale to the weekend's celebrations will include the Queen's Birthday Parade, Award Ceremony, and a Garden Tea Party. A fireworks show on Seven Mile Beach will bring down the curtain on a memorable celebration of Her Majesty The Queen's historic Platinum Jubilee.
Speaking on the events, His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Martyn Roper, said, “In Her Majesty's Jubilee Message, she said she hopes the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved in the last seventy years, and I am sure we will do just that here in the Cayman Islands.”
“Despite the rain, this will be a weekend filled with sentimental moments, fun and laughter, community spirit, and recognition of deserving citizens. I look forward to Saturday's (today's) celebrations on the Brac, and I look forward to the community joining me for the grand finale at Government House on Monday, which is an open house event, with no invitation required,” he said.
The colorful parade will take over the street in front of Government House at 5 pm. Parade contingents will be led by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Band, and followed by detachments from The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), Cayman Islands Regiment, Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS), HM Cayman Islands Prison Service, Cayman Islands Coast Guard, Girls' Brigade Cayman Islands, Cayman Islands Scouts & Cub Scouts, Cayman Islands Cadet Corps, and the Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinders.
Presentations of honors and awards will follow, recognizing the contributions of residents of Grand Cayman with prestigious awards such as Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), The British Empire Medal (BEM), and The Cayman Islands Certificate & Badge of Honour (Cert. Hon.).
The festivities will continue with a Garden Tea Party outside of Government House – a favorite and nostalgic event for many Caymanians and residents. Attendees can look forward to many special treats, including the Cayman Platinum Cake Competition Winner, Ms. Anne Frawley's ‘Cayman Sunrise Cake,' which impressed the judges with its inspired flavors and art representing all things Cayman.
Business attire is expected, and medals of honor should be worn.
In a spectacular finale that will be witnessed all across Seven Mile Beach, a fireworks show will light up the skies at 8 pm.
