(CMR) 24-year-old Hunter Ebanks was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a fatal collision along West Bay Road early Thursday morning. Sources familiar with Ebanks said that he only recently “got his license back” for another DUI.
Accordingly to his LinkedIn account, Ebanks is a boat captain for Crazy Crab Cayman, however, other sources indicate he's a boat handler. Ebanks is a father of three young children and it's understood that the deceased is a security guard.
Police reports are that shortly after 4:00 AM today, 26 May, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on West Bay Road, in the vicinity of Safehaven Drive, involving a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Honda Civic, each with a single occupant.
The driver of the Honda, who was trapped in the vehicle, was extricated by Fire Officers and transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital via ambulance. The man, age 41, was subsequently pronounced dead.
The driver of the Hyundai received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital, treated, and subsequently released. Following his release, the man, age 24 of West Bay, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He has been bailed as investigations continue.
West Bay Road was closed temporarily following the accident but has since been fully reopened.
