(CMR) There have been mixed reactions among Jamaicans since the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in their country on Tuesday for a three-day visit as part of a Caribbean tour in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
A large number of people stood across from the British High Commission in Jamaica on Tuesday demanding an apology for slavery and reparation before Prince William and Kate arrived.
Vice-president of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) Jawari Deslandes said he was appalled by Jamaicans who have rolled out the red carpet in welcoming the Royal couple.
“Those days are over!” Deslandes said.
If we don't stand up against brutality, colonialism, domination, we gonna always be under the foot of the colonial master,” he told Jamaica Gleaner.
While many people have called for reparation, Prince William and Kate received a warm welcome in Trench Town on Tuesday afternoon as they visited Bob Marley Museum.
The couple also got a chance to play football with locals and got a chance to beat drums with Rastafarians.
On Wednesday, the Royals interacted with students at the Shortwood Teachers' College before visiting the Spanish Town Hospital, which is celebrating its 70th birthday this year.
