(CMR) The Public Health Department has announced COVID-19 vaccination clinics for children ages 5 – 11, following the arrival of the pediatric vaccine last week. The childhood vaccination clinics are by-appointment-only and will be offered throughout the districts in Grand Cayman and in the Sister Islands.
Appointments can be made by contacting the Public Health Clinic at 926-8152 (Grand Cayman) or 244-7643 (Sister Islands). Papers are asked to bring along the child's immunization record.
Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez, Medical Officer of Health, stated that the vaccine has gone through quality control checks and will be rolled out starting this week.
“Public Health nurses will be administering these vaccines at the dedicated clinics according to the newly released schedule,” said Dr. Williams-Rodriguez.
“The vaccine for children (pediatric presentation) will be administered 12 weeks apart between the first and second dose. For those vulnerable children who already received the first dose with the adult COVID-19 vaccine, the second dose will be given at least 8 weeks apart and they have been scheduled accordingly,” he explained.
Hon Sabrina Turner, Minister of Health & Wellness, said the Cayman Islands is “very fortunate to be able to provide vaccination coverage for the children of the Cayman Islands, especially as we further ease restrictions and welcome more visitors to our shores.”
“I implore parents and guardians to do their best research on the vaccines, have open dialogue with their children about why being vaccinated against COVID-19 is so important, and to take advantage of the protection available for their children,” she added.
