(CMR) The Cayman Music & Entertainment Association (CMEA) has issued a statement sharing that they have not endorsed Sekou Litchmoure, AKA DJ Mario Brukbad Gunz, to play music as a DJ in the Cayman Islands. He has been arrested for stabbing a 29-year-old man at Everglo Bar in George Town.
Based on their findings, the CMEA concluded that given the fact that he is not legally connected to CMEA, he should not be “working in a business playing music as a DJ.”
Denouncing the violent stabbing incident, they shared the news of the recent stabbing at Everglo Bar on Sunday night “saddened” them and has raised the alarm for an area of concern to them – unqualified people moonlighting in the industry with the required legal permission.
In the statement, they are reminding bar and nightclub owners to check and verify the status of anyone playing music at their respective businesses with a view to confirming their “certified and legal status” with CMEA. They noted that they are happy to meet with the business owners, WORC, or the Liquor Licensing Board to improve the way forward so that this unfortunate incident is not repeated.
CMEA encourages Caymanians to become members, but foreign nationals should be endorsed by CMEA in order to obtain the relevant work permit permissions.
CMR has discovered that Litchmoure worked at AL Thompson’s but has since been terminated after the stabbing arrest. He is released on bail and has not yet been charged in the matter as police investigations continue.
