(CMR) All persons who are now receiving a tourism stipend will receive an extra $500 for Christmas, Minister of Tourism Kenneth Bryan has announced.
“Normally, if they were working, employees would have probably given them a bonus, and as we can tell, cost of living has not decreased as yet,” Mr. Bryan said.
He also announced that the management of the stipend program will move to the Ministry of Labour as of January 1, 2022. This ministry will be better able to handle the program since it deals with employment and will help recipients back into jobs, Mr. Bryan explained.
Meantime, the minister said the Holland American cruise ship, which is expected to call on Cayman on December 28, will still do so despite the discovery of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 on island.
He said all seven requirements, including that all guests and crews must be vaccinated and have a negative PCR test taken no more than two days before they embarked, have been met by the ship.
No unwell person will be allowed to disembark the ship.
