(CMR) Michael Lopez Watler (22) of West Bay has been formally charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm after surrendering to police on 26 October. The charge is in relation to an incident that took place on 10 July 2021.
Watler appeared before the court on Thursday, 4 November, where he was remanded in custody until 12 November, when he will return to the Grand Court.
Reports are that two shots were fired along West Church Street, near the West Bay Post Office on 10 July. During the investigation, two spent rounds were recovered by the officers. No one reported injuries or damage to properties in the nearby area.
From the description of a vehicle involved in the incident, officers from the Firearm Response Unit had cause to search a vehicle that was located at a residence on Birch Tree Hill Road. During the search, several rounds of ammunition were recovered along with a firearm magazine.
Two men, ages 21 and 30, both of West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Watler was listed as wanted by the police recently and turned himself over to the police.
