(CMR) Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) confirms that its Boeing 737-8 jet service has resumed between Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman and the Goloson International Airport (LCE) in La Ceiba, Honduras. The route was initially canceled in mid-October after the airport downgraded its operational capabilities.
The decision following an assessment by CAL of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements for Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service, in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI).
This assessment has led to several CAACI-approved operational adjustments by Cayman Airways which maintain the required levels of safety and include limiting passenger loads to traditional B737-300 aircraft levels when using the larger B737-8 aircraft.
The service resumed last Thursday, October 28, 2021, and currently operates weekly with nonstop flights each Thursday. Bookings can be made online at www.caymanairways.com or by calling Cayman Airways Reservations on 345-949-2311 or 800-2791-9422 (toll-free in Honduras).
