(CMR) The Cayman Islands will be moving to Phase 4 of the re-opening of its borders on Saturday, November 20, 2021 where most persons entering the jurisdiction would be able to do so without any quarantine requirements.
Vaccinated visitors who can provide a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival will be able to travel directly to their hotels or place of residence.
Premier Wayne Panton made a joke about the trending raccoon having no part to do with the re-opening of the country. On a more serious note, he shared that “we have already been living with COVID” referring to the recent number of community transmission cases.
He ended his brief statement by stating:
“We now have a date, you now have a date.”
Deputy Governor Franz Manderson spoke after noting that he has never had a challenge quite like the current one of a reopening plan that allows Cayman to re-open without having to shut down again.
He noted that the PACT government did not merely ask them if they are ready but instead asked them to prove their readiness to open the country. He then went through in great detail all of the various areas and considerations that will be taken into account leading up to and after the re-opening of the borders.
Minister of Health and Wellness indicated that lateral flow tests will be made available to students free of charge with some 20,000 units available for this vulnerable group.
