(CMR) Police recover a handgun during a vehicle stop and search on Sunday,17 October in George Town. Reports are that at about 12:45 am on Sunday, officers from the RCIPS Firearm Response Unit had cause to stop and search a black Honda Stream motor vehicle, along Shedden Road, in the vicinity of Mary Street, George Town.
A search of the vehicle was carried out with the assistance of the K-9 Unit, and a loaded black and silver handgun was found beneath the driver seat.
The gun was recovered as evidence, and the driver of the vehicle, age 37, of George Town, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He was taken into custody, where he remains pending further investigation.
On Monday, 18 October, the police formally charged the arrested man for Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (Ammunition), contrary to the Firearm Law (2008 Revision). He appeared in court on Tuesday.
