(CMR) The Delta Variant is now accounting for 100% of the positive cases in the Cayman Islands over the past several weeks. The latest results have found that there are 42 positive cases in the local community and 11 in travelers who are existing quarantine. 19 of the positives are children.
CMR understands that both Foster's Republix supermarket and Dairy Queen now have positive employees as well. Fosters noted that their employees have not been to work since last Wednesday as they were already in self-isolation due to contact tracing and have only recently tested positive in this last batch.
The Dairy Queen employee worked up until Friday.
These results came in since Friday with some 1,662 PCR tests conducted since Friday, October 15. Cayman is testing at a phenomenal rate according to Dr. Lee. He noted that given the population size it's the equivalent of testing 1.7 million people in the UK.
Genomic sequencing of 11 samples with a high enough viral load has revealed that all of the samples over the past few weeks have been the Delta Variant. This was distributed between four travelers and 11 people from within the community, which included 5 children.
There have been 110,533 vaccinations completed in the Cayman Islands. 55,887 are first doses, representing 79 percent of the population. 53,530 people have had both doses, representing 75 percent of the population. 1,116 members of the population have had a third booster shot which represents 6 percentDe of those over the age of 60.
