(CMR) Cayman Crosstalk on Rooster 101.9 has been canceled after 19 years on the airwaves. Today was the final day for the long-running morning talk showing according to host Chanda Glidden. The announcement, whilst not unexpected by many was made this morning without any prior notice.
CMR was made aware that the platform was struggling from early in 2021 and several advertisers had pulled out from using the show to promote their services.
Glidden hosted for a mere five months after taking over from two-time host Barrie Quappe. At that time, Glidden and Quappe announced that a co-host would be joining the program alongside Glidden. However, that never materialized and Glidden was often hosting the program in solo mode. On some occasions, she was joined by members of the Compass Media team including news reporters.
CrossTalk has had a number of hosts over the years and has struggled immensely for the past ten months after firing talk show host, Woody DaCosta on December 31, 2020. Viewer numbers continued to struggle in a downward spiral and on most days she was unable to obtain several hundred views on their Facebook social media page.
In the past several years the morning drive time segment has become more complex with several options being made available to listenings including Radio Cayman hosting a talk show three times per week. In 2020, Cayman Marl Road's Content Manager, Sandy Hill launched a daily morning talk show at almost the precise time slot as Cayman CrossTalk. The Cold Hard Truth currently is streaming on Facebook and YouTube but it's anticipated that will be launching on a regular radio station soon.
The new format on Rooster 101.9 will be to play country music during the morning drive time. Rooster was acquired by Compass Media, along with several other radio stations previously owned by Hurley's Media in late 2020.
