(CMR) The Speaker of the Cayman Islands Parliament, Hon. McKeeva Bush has sent congratulations to the newly installed Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Hon. Philip Davis, QC.
Writing on behalf of himself and the other Cayman Islands’ MPs, the Speaker has lauded the new Prime Minister on his “landslide victory” in that country’s recent snap polls.
This victory is a testament to the conviction and confidence the people have in their new leader, the Speaker comments and adds, “I have noted with interest that you have committed to serving all the peoples of Bahamas, which speaks to your character and dedication.”
The new Bahamian Prime Minister of the Progressive Liberal Party, who was the Opposition leader going into the elections, won 32 of 39 seats, defeating the incumbent PM Hubert Minnis, who had led that country since 2017. The country is currently facing the COVID-19 pandemic impact while still rebuilding from being devastated by a strong Hurricane Dorian in 2019, which killed over 70 people.
Speaker Bush states, “The people have demonstrated that, as a nation, they seek your leadership. Your undertaking and commitment to ensure that opportunities reach every Bahamian family is commendable. You have indicated that you will lead with humility and determination in order to make the Bahamian people enjoy a better quality of life.
“It is evident that the people of Bahamas are resilient and have reposed their trust and confidence in you.”
The Speaker adds, “Undoubtedly, like many other countries, you will have the difficulty and challenges to navigate the effective management of Covid-19 and the adverse effects of natural disasters such as your unique experience with Hurricane Dorian.”
“We wish you all the best during your tenure and beyond,” he concludes.
