(CMR) The National Weather Service said flooding of low-lying areas is possible as a tropical wave that is expected to move across the Caribbean starts affecting the Cayman Islands between Thursday and Friday.
The NWS said a very active tropical wave currently extending across Haiti is expected to move over the western Caribbean. The National Hurricane Center has this system at an 80% chance of developing into a cyclone in 5 days when it moves over the Yucatan Peninsula.
Whether or not the system develops into a tropical depression or stronger, the following conditions are expected for the Cayman Islands.
Cloudy to overcast skies with scattered thundershowers. Showers are likely to be heavy at times, along with flooding of low-lying areas. Seas area forecasted to be rough from tomorrow night and become very rough on Friday with wave heights of 6 to 8 feet.
Residents should continue to monitor this broad area of low pressure currently located several hundred miles SSE of Jamaica and maintain levels of preparedness.
