(CMR) Strong winds and heavy rains are affecting the Cayman Islands as Tropical Storm Grace moves away from the islands. According to the National Weather Service, as of 4 am, Tropical storm Grace was located at 18.8N 80.9N of about 40 miles SSE of Grand Cayman with maximum sustained winds of 65mph.
Tropical storm Grace is moving towards the west at 16 mph. The latest forecast has Grace becoming a Hurricane further west of Grand Cayman than previously predicted; therefore, the threat of Hurricane-force winds affecting Grand Cayman has decreased.
Overcast skies with torrential rain and intermittent thunderstorms are expected today as Tropical Storm Grace passes to the south of Grand Cayman. Showers will be locally heavy at times leading to flooding of low-lying areas.
A Flood and Marine Warning is also in effect.
Residents are urged to continue monitoring the development of Tropical Storm Grace.
