Toddler sustains multiple fractures at daycare shocking mom

(CMR) The RCIPS and Mash Unit are investigating the circumstances under which a 21-month-old child fractured her arm at a local daycare center without the mother’s knowledge on Wednesday. The child sustained a broken elbow and wrist and was unable to move it when taken to the hospital.

The mother was initially told the child was not feeling well and it may have been some yogurt she had earlier in the day.

Exclusive CMR sources have indicated that the toddler attended the Precious Gem Nursery on Walker’s Road on Wednesday, August 11 for what appeared to be an uneventful day. However, when the mother of the child picked her up she noticed that the child’s arm appeared swollen and she was in obvious pain.

She was then told about the potential interaction with some yogurt.

Out of an abundance of caution, she then rushed the child to the George Town Hospital only to discover that the child had a fractured arm in multiple locations. Initially, she thought that the toddler may have been having an allergic reaction to something until the physician informed the mom that the arm was actually broken.

Social Services were called and informed of the case and the matter has been referred to the interdisciplinary MASH unit for further investigation.

The child and mother spent the night at the pediatric ward at the hospital. She will be wearing a cast for at least a month. If it does not heal by then the child will require surgery.

It is unclear when or how the child may have sustained the injuries but at no point was the mother called or informed that the child has been hurt in any way at the school.

Other than the mention of the yogurt there was no indication that anything happened to the child. Sources familiar with the situation said the child has recently moved to a new classroom.

The father was unable to work because of the distress when he was told on Thursday. Both parents are extremely upset as well as other family members both in Cayman and abroad.

CMR reached out to the daycare but received no response to our query. However, we understand that the school principal maintains she has no idea what happened to the child.
