Two prison officers “resign” under cloud of suspicion days apart

Two officers gone in less than one week!

(CMR) In less than one week two prison officers are no longer employed with the prison service under unusual circumstances. The prison director has denied any unusual conditions that led to the end of their contract. However, allegations are that to quash the recent increase in terminations officers are now being told to resign or that their contracts will not be renewed.

The resignations appears to be actual terminations with the option to save face and resign.

In one instance, a female office's “resignation” was announced via email earlier Tuesday afternoon. However, the truth of her convenience resignation follows allegations of smuggling drugs into the prison system which was discovered after she was found to be dating a prisoner. The prison denied that any arrests had been made today and that there was an ongoing investigation into a female prison officer.

Last week Thursday, CMR got word that a male officer was also relieved of his duties from the prison after his behavior had been recently called into question. Once again, it was alleged that he enjoyed an overly friendly relationship with prison inmates and concerns were raised about his possible dealings with drug importation. Prison staff was informed late Thursday night that his contract was not renewed.

Concerned persons in the community are now accusing prison management of letting go of “bad seeds” without going through the police to have them investigated and charged for what would ordinarily be offenses of breach of trust or corruption in order to save face. One observer noted that the problem with this approach is that it allows them to obtain other employment potentially in high-security areas with no blemish on their records.

Another concern raised is that prison officers are not being adequately trained and instead are being left to the wolves of other senior officers and inmates. With little support being provided after the initial training it is alleged that new recruits are extremely vulnerable to being corrupted and even used as drug and illegal phone mules.

There is also an allegation of a married English senior prison training officer having recently impregnated a new recruit whilst she was in training. Because he is a married man he insisted on an abortion which she refused. The young recruit now works at the female prison and management has indicated they are unaware of the situation.
