(CMR) Ezekiel Carter (36) appeared via video link in Summary Court Thursday morning before Magistrate Phillipa McFarlane to answer charges of Murder along five counts of Attempted Murder and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm.
Crown Counsel Candia James-Malcolm asked counts 1-6 to be transmitted to the Grand Court. Defense attorney Oliver Grimwood of Samson Law Associates inidcated he wished for the matter to be transferred and listed immediately for Friday. Usually the protocol is for it to be listed within two weeks.
He spoke briefly and indicated that he understood fully what was happening. He also has s Summary Court matter which his lawyer was made aware of by the magistrate.
Carter was on remand after being arrested on Friday July 16 at a private residence off Woodland Drive in Lower Valley in relation to the mass shooting at Vic’s Bar located on Seymour Road, George Town on 9 July.
Six persons were shot when armed men entered the bar shortly before 2:00 am. One man has died as a result of the shooting and another one is said to be paralyzed. Deceased is Wayne Eron McLean (25) of Bodden Town.
Also arrested in the matter but not yet charged is Mikkyle Brandon Leslie-Ebanks. Ebanks-Leslie and Carter are two first cousins being the sons of brother and sister Nelson Carter and Susan Cowan.
Leslie-Ebanks was also arrested in relation to a shooting last year.
In 2013 Michael Brandon Leslie, from the Cayman Islands, agreed to plead guilty in a United States Federal Court to one of seven counts in return for the dismissal of the other six charges in relation to a gun smuggling case. He was charged with smuggling guns between Cayman and Florida in refrigerators. As part of his plea agreement he received 46 months in prison along with a three-year term of supervised release.
