(CMR) Former United States Ambassador to Jamaica Donald Tapia has admitted that the US Consular Office in Kingston may have erred when it revoked the visa of Jamaica's Energy Minister Daryl Vaz.
In an interview with Nationwide News Network's Cliff Hughes, Tapia said the decision was made on inconclusive information.
In 2019 while Tapia was ambassador to Jamaica, both the visas of Vaz and his wife Ann-Marie Vaz were revoked.
“I will try to correct a wrong that I think was done under my watch,” Tapia said. However, he did not provide specifics about what will be done.
Meantime, Daryl Vaz has welcomed word from the former US Ambassador that he is doing his best to correct the wrong done in revoking his visa.
“I have been subject to innuendos and a smear campaign since I entered politics many years ago as a councilor, and it appears that this would have resulted in the action against my wife and I in the visa issue,” Vaz told Nationwide News Network.
Vaz, who has been in representational politics for over 20 years, said this may be his last term as a Member of Parliament.
