(CMR) An American Airlines flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, to the Bahamas Monday was postponed until Tuesday morning after a group of high school students reportedly refused to wear masks.
The flight was scheduled to take off at 9:30 am Eastern time Monday but was first delayed by mechanical issues and then by a group of students who decided to stage a mask rebellion that lasted for hours, Forbes reported
Passengers onboard the plane told WSOC and News 19, the students were a group of more than 30 high schoolers from a Boston-area school who were celebrating their graduation.
The student group was “yelling,” “cursing,” and “being very obnoxious,” passenger Malik Banks told WSOC.
American Airlines confirmed the group “became disruptive to other customers and refused to follow crew member instructions while onboard.” They were asked to leave the airplane after crew members reminded the group of the mask mandate “several times,” Forbes reported.
Customers were given hotel vouchers, and the flight eventually took off shortly after 9 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday.
The group of disruptive students was allowed to fly on Tuesday after crew members had a conversation with them and confirmed they would be allowed to fly if they complied with the mask policy.
