(CMR) The 10:00 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center reports that the maximum sustained winds of Hurricane Elsa have decreased to 80 mph. The movement continues to the WNW at 29 mph. Some re-strengthening is expected on Saturday along with some decrease in forward speed.
A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service is forecasting very rough seas will begin impacting the Cayman Islands, especially the Sister Islands on Sunday evening and will continue through Monday with wave heights estimated at between 9 to 13 feet. Fresh winds are also forecast to begin affecting the Cayman Islands on Sunday night and the winds may possibly increase to near tropical storm force with higher gusts for the Sister Islands on Monday. Additionally, locally heavy rainfall leading to flooding of low-lying areas is forecast for both Sunday and Monday.
With a marine advisory likely going into effect for Sunday and a marine warning issued for Monday. Boating interests are strongly encouraged to seek safe shelter
