(CMR) A police constable from Punta Gorda in Belize was shot on Tuesday during an exchange of gunfire with suspected Guatemalan bandits.
Breaking News Belize reported that PC Ronaldo Camara was on his way from San Jose, Hawai, around 2 pm, as part of a composite patrol when he stopped at a river to fetch water and fell behind the patrol team. While trying to catch up to his team, he encountered two Hispanic men, one armed with a .9mm pistol and the other with an apparent homemade shotgun.
The man with the shotgun opened fire, hitting Camara in the left calf, and he returned fire, prompting the men to run off. The men escaped, and Camara was located shortly after, then taken to the Punta Gorda Town Polyclinic, where he’s admitted in a stable condition.
The Belize police are investigating the matter.
