LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear CMR,
Thank you for your unwavering desire to uncover and share the truth with the people of the Cayman Islands so that we can be a better country. We are hopeful after the first arrest this week, but skeptical that anything will really be done about drugs in the prison because the “big fish” remain untouchable.
I noticed your correction to the second story about another officer being subjected to a drug test and the comments that followed. In my opinion, you have absolutely nothing to be apologetic about. Media make errors all the time and run corrections but yours brought out some very interesting characters and commentary and they would be much better off keeping their mouths shut.
As Shakespeare said, “The lady doth protest too much, methinks”
Those who are protesting their innocence trying to fool the wider community should know that many already know about them and are not so easily fooled. Prison management can deny all they want as well but if they are genuine about putting an end to this foolishness they will take heed.
The first arrest with Officer Rambaran should not be an isolated incident because there's a ring servicing drugs into the prison and he is just a courier – small fries in my opinion that was specifically recruited for that purpose.
The recruitment of these officers is not as simple as incompetent HR managers allegedly sleeping with them. It has been going on long before these recent recruits. These criminal actions in Cayman have been going on for far too long. The real players even in Jamaica upon arrest have local assets disappear and are not sent back to the Jamaican authorities as part of MLAT agreements.
Ask yourself how many times that has happened in a local courthouse and cannot be reported on and does not form part of any official record. These are the things people need to wake up to that happen in these beautiful Cayman Islands.
Some others who claim to be innocent are actually not and much bigger players. Ironically, even the prisoners know it yet prison security, management and police remain ignorant to the real facts. Is it willful ignorance?
Imagine when prisoners are begging for the prison staff to be incarcerated and stating that they cannot wait for certain individuals to be locked up! Prisoners …
Imagine, they are protesting their innocence and having sex with known drug addicts and giving them money for the information and connections they provide. Yes, I read a lot of comments that made me shake my head in disbelief.
Imagine prison officers protesting their innocence and are known to be allowing drug kingpins in Cayman to drive around in vehicles registered to them.
Only in Cayman can this foolishness go on and no one sees the obvious connections.
The facade must be exposed once and for all if we are to truly address corruption in this country but sadly the real culprits are being protected by those higher up the food chain. They cannot afford for certain individuals to get locked up because the entire house of cards will come tumbling down.
In terms of the current officer arrested I doubt he will be of much use to them because he no doubt has been threatened and the long arm of criminal enterprise will also threaten his family in Jamaica. He won't do much singing and honestly will become a scapegoat for the real criminals – all of who should be incarcerated.
Mark my word how quickly this will disappear! If they are serious about getting all involved they need to place this officer in witness protection immediately!
Nothing is as simple as it seems and those pressing their innocence the most have the most to be fearful of – as you say the COLD HARD TRUTH!
If the authorities really want to clean up Northward Prison they need to also need to look within their own ranks and address the issue of police corruption and involvement. Cleaning up drugs in the prisons means cleaning it up in the streets and cleaning up corruption all over. Even police have their hands in this mess and are often known to be feeding information back to those involved at the prison so they can afford detection.
Prison officers are working with criminals on the streets of Cayman to protect their drug enterprises. Ask yourself why a certain officer called in sick the same day that Ramsaran was arrested. Being subjected to a drug test in Northward Prison as an officer is not a random and usual procedure at all and anyone who thinks so is a fool.
Take absolutely NOTHING at face value. The fox is watching the hen house at Northward and that rabbit hole goes very deep. The story you're currently being fed is a smokescreen and those of us in the know are fearful this will yet again be covered up.
Even the arrest of this officer is likely not as simple as a random check. I'm willing to bet he either doublecrossed someone or they decided they need to create this situation.
Police and prison corruption has run rampant in this country long before you and I were even in existence. You continue to report the truth and believe your sources are not far off with what they are saying. More should be arrested and imprisoned but will they?
