(CMR) Jamaican prison officer Rudolph Rambaran was arrested this morning after being found smuggling some two pounds of marijuana into Northward Prison shortly after 6:00 a.m. The breaking news was provided by exclusive CMR sources that as he was going into the prison to begin his shift he was subjected to a search and found with the ganja.
It has further been revealed that after strip-searching him the authorities turned their attention to his vehicle where they found another two pounds of marijuana and some 9 cellular phones. It was also revealed that he was taking the drugs into the prison for a Brac prisoner. He was overheard begging for leniency and asking them to let him go and overlook the incident.
His live-in girlfriend is also a prison officer and is said to be the ex-niece-in-law of a government minister. Rambaran has six young children and is originally from Portmore, Jamaica. Sources indicate he has been a police officer for about three years and was hired under an HRM manager that is no longer with the prison but had made several questionable hiring choices “with individuals she appeared to have a very close relationship with”. She has since been removed from that post.
Before working at the prison he was employed at a local security company working security at the Government Administration Building. Other CMR sources indicate that there was speculation around him from the time that he worked at the HSA as a security guard.
There are accusations that he owes the local credit union a lot of money and they were in the process of taking him to court. One source indicated they needed to conduct a better background check into his dealings from Jamaica.
Rambaran served between 8-10 years in the military in Jamaica and he served in the intelligence department there. He was also part of the first Jamaican regiment band.
This is a developing story and will be updated once more information becomes available. More arrests are expected.
