(CMR) A man was struck in the face with a machete during an altercation in George Town on Wednesday. CMR first reported on social media last night that a man has been “chopped” by another man at the gas station on Eastern Avenue where the victim works as a pump attendant.
CMR sources have indicated that the two men have been rowing for some time now over a woman and the wounded man was confronted at his place of employment. Apparently, the assailant had made threats the day before the incident and wanted to make good on those.
Police reports are that shortly before 7:40 pm, officers responded to a report of an altercation at a service station on Eastern Avenue. It was reported that a man was at the location when he was approached by another man known to him, who brandished a machete. A struggle ensued, and the first man was struck in the face with the machete and wounded. The second man then fled the location in a vehicle, traveling in the direction of Grackle Road.
Emergency services attended the location, and the victim was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital, treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and subsequently discharged.
The matter is currently under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact George Town CID at 949-4222.
