(CMR) Kasnique Cupid (Eve Highvoltage) started crying in court today as she watched the prosecution's case against unravel causing Judge Cheryll Richards to take an unscheduled late afternoon break. The surprise outbreak came during the second of two pre-recorded police interviews with Cupid that were being shown to the jury.

The court heard in her first interview conducted on March 20, 2020, she mostly answered: “no comment” to the vast majority of questions put to her including who else would have had access to the vehicle they allege was used in the robbery of Tortuga Liquor Store in Governor's Square in February 2020. Cupid explained that it was “an ordinary day” for her and there would be no reason for her to recollect the events of that day making it difficult for her to answer any of their questions about what she did.

She shared that her husband does not have a license and therefore does not drive. However, most other questions about the vehicle were met with a “no comment.” At one stage she admitted to selling her vehicle to a man because it had engine problems several days after the robbery. Immediately she went on the defense to say the police were going to make it look like the two events were connected and she was adamant that they were not.

She accused the police of trying to fabricate evidence against her and called their case circumstantial.

The police put to her that she had gone to Fosters in West Bay at the Republix store and purchase two black gloves after picking up some family items including baby supplies which she paid for with a debit card. CCTV footage showed that the gloves were purchased as a second transaction with money including coins. She adamantly denied paying for anything with a debit card.

At the end of the first interview after replying she could not remember or no comments to the vast majority of questions she read a prepared statement that unequivocally denied any knowledge of or participation in the robbery.

In fact, although she claimed that she could not recall the day's events because it was “an ordinary day for her” she denied likely going anywhere in the evening. Her prepared statement said she knew nothing about the robbery, did not drive the car, and did not drop off any men at the location or nearby.

The police then questioned her about her clothing to which she replied no comment. The detectives noted that white shoes and a shoulder bag similar to what she was alleging wearing on the visit to Fosters were found at her home during a search.

The police also found ganja and asked her about it during the interview to which she admitted smoking. However, the judge instructed the jury to not take that into consideration during their deliberations nothing that just because a person smokes ganja does not mean they are more likely to be involved in a serious crime such as robbery.

She was then asked about her knowledge of a man named Richard Nash (AKA Sicka and Kilo), her co-accused to which she denied knowing anyone by that name. The police pointed out to her that she had that contact saved in her phone to which she replied she had “thousands of contacts in her phone”.

In the second pre-recorded interview, the police started to press her further about her visit to Foster's Republix and put evidence to her that in fact an NAU debit card was used at the register at the time and is registered to Markel Cupid (her husband). She changed her story at that point and admitted that it was her in the grocery store and she had purchased the two black gloves with cash in order to work out with them.

After accepting her whereabouts earlier in the evening they then inquired about her route to reach her house in West Bay. According to her, she could go either left or right and still arrive at her residence. Given that response, they then pressed her as to why she was observed passing cemetery beach/WB Fire Station and later the Kimpton Resort – well out any possible route home. She was not able to provide a response and then denied that was her.

They also noted that cell phone tower records picked up her mobile phone at several locations including one right in the vicinity of Cost U Less.

Less than six months on the job she did admit that she was scheduled to work at that location at the time of the robbery but February 7 was her day off. She worked the day prior.

They asked why upon examination of her mobile phone there were photos/footage of the three store locations that she worked at including Governor's Square, 7 Mile Shops and West Shore Plaza. The police asked why she was taking photos of the inside of the stores and she gave numerous explanations including the fact that “some fat Caymanian woman” had been stalking her. For another location, she claims the photos were needed in case she needed to send it to someone to secure a ride home.

She argued that the stores were not worthy of being robbed because they barely had any cash in them and she was often only working a short 3-4 hour shift and other than her $250 float she might take in $50 in cash. On the recording, they informed her that in fact that evening over $1,800 in cash was taken the night of the robbery to which she appeared to be surprised.

It was at this stage that she started crying as she watched her earlier interactions with the police. The tears were short-lived but caused a break in the proceedings.

As the pre-recorded interview was continued they revealed to her that she did, in fact, know her co-accused and asked her to explain why if she didn't know him there was a record of an 12-minute conversation on her phone and he was saved in her phone. She replied that she cannot say who she was speaking to because “it's not like I can see the person's face or anything”.

Still not willing to admit that she was driving the vehicle after it left Fosters leaving the detectives to explore who else could have access to the white Toyota Nova to which she replied the car did have a broken door.

She noted that she wanted to clarify that during the time she worked there 80% of her shifts were short and so the stores did not have much cash. The police then inquired about the purchase of the gloves again to which she denied they were actually black and further noted that they were in her house by the entertainment center where she had her dumbbells to work out. The detectives confirmed that they were involved in the search and no such gloves were at that location.

The trial continues on Tuesday with the prosecution expected to call a detective to the stand for most of the day. Crister Brady, defense attorney for Nash shared that he was doubtful they would be calling any witnesses to the stand. Cupid's attorney indicated she was still uncertain about whether or not Cupid would take the stand.
