(CMR) Aaron Montemayor, who was charged with two counts of breaching COVID-19 regulations, had his case adjourned to allow him to get legal aid when he appeared in Summary Court on Monday.
Montemayor (19) was charged after he was caught escaping from both a government ran quarantine facility and his family home after being forced to reside there after the initial breach.
Attorney John Megoo said while the teen was initially told he was not entitled to legal aid, the director of legal aid had the discretion to grant it.
Montemayor was accompanied to court by his mother, who is a senior resource manager in government. Before the breach, the teen had recently returned to the island from school and has been under the care of his mother since.
Montemayor did not enter a plea and the matter was adjourned until May 24, when Magistrate Angelyn Hernandez said she expects him to enter a plea.
