(CMR) Local companies Burger King and Popeyes are now under new ownership after being purchased it was exclusively revealed today.
The Burger Holdings Ltd. group of companies, as the authorized franchisees of Burger King® and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen® restaurants in the Cayman Islands for 40 years, is pleased to announce there has been a change of ownership.
Introduced to Cayman by Mr. Burns Rutty, the first Burger King restaurant on the island opened on December 23, 1982. Since that time, the Rutty Family has grown with the island and has been part of the fabric of the Cayman community. Gary and Angel Rutty, along with Fred Dallas, have grown the Burger King brand and launched Popeyes, which celebrated its 11th anniversary this year.
This month, Mr. Mark Anthony takes over ownership of the companies and operation of the franchised restaurant business. Along with this change of ownership, Mr. Dallas joins Mr. Anthony in the ownership and continued management of the business.
Mr. Anthony, a local resident of Cayman for nearly 10 years, states,
“It is an honour and I am beyond excited to have been afforded this opportunity that the Rutty Family has provided. Over the last two years I have gotten to know Gary, Angel, Fred and Judy (Wight). They have built an incredible team of people and an enviable reputation in Cayman.”
Mark continued by saying, “Together with Fred and the team we plan to continue building on the history of excellence and community service. We are eager to expand the Popeyes brand to West Bay and Red Bay in the very near future with plans to move further east to reach our customers in the eastern districts.”
In closing, Gary commented, “We are most thankful for our loyal customers, staff and vendors who have made these two brands so strong today.” Fred added, “We will continue to offer the excellent service with the best quality and value that our customers have grown accustomed to receiving throughout the years.”
