(CMR) A Jamaica taxi operator is recovering in hospital after he was attacked and robbed of his car and other possessions and then thrown in a 55-foot deep hole.
The police and firefighters rescued the man (66) from the very deep hole in the Jones Avenue area of Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday, three days after he was thrown there.
The man, who lives in Portmore, was reportedly robbed of his Nissan AD Wagon and cash last Thursday night after he went to the Jones Avenue area of Spanish Town to conduct business.
He suffered broken bones and was also dehydrated when found. Several firefighters carried out the delicate task of removing the injured man from the hole.
Reports are that the police acting on information went into the area when a man who it is believed was sleeping on a mattress near the hole was seen fleeing the area. Checks were made, and it was discovered that the taxi operator was in the hole.
Police are investigating to see if the incident was linked to an extortion scheme since the man was not killed but was thrown in the hole with someone standing guard.
