(CMR) A Jamaican fisherman died Saturday after one of his arms was ripped from his body by a shark while fishing in Westmoreland, Jamaica. The shark inflicted several wounds on his upper body before other fishermen managed to free him from its jaws.
Donovan Haywood (56) of Darling Street in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, died as a result of the injuries.
Reports are that shortly after 8 am, Haywood and a group of other fishermen went spearfishing in the Little Bay area of Little London.
Other fishermen who witnessed the horrific incident said the shark attacked Haywood from underneath, grabbing his left side. It reportedly took about half an hour for the fishermen to get Haywood away from the shark, which escaped with one of his arms.
The shark released Hayward after one of the fishermen used a spear to shoot it.
Haywood was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
