(CMR) A vessel carrying relief supplies from Saint Lucia to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines sank Saturday afternoon.
But another boat saved the three people on board the ‘Sunshine Angels’, St Lucia Times reported.
The individuals on board at the time the boat sank were the Saint Lucian captain, Mark Clement St Rose, who lives in Saint Vincent, and Vincentian nationals Cafu Guy and Winsbert Salton Harry, police reported.
No details were given about the boat which saved the group or what caused the boat to sink.
The boat had reportedly cleared Customs in Saint Lucia and was on its way to Saint Vincent when the mishap occurred about 4.40 pm. The vessel sank some 6 nautical miles South West of Saint Vincent.
La Soufriere volcano on the island of St Vincent started erupting more than a week ago causing mass evacuation in sections of the country. Several countries had been offering assistance to the people of St Vincent.
Most homes in St. Vincent are without water, and most of the country's people have been impacted by ash fall,” Dujarric said.
Eruptions have continued to occur daily, with ash clouds covering the country and reaching surrounding islands.
On Thursday, the United Nations released $1 million from its emergency fund to provide aid to the Caribbean nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines following a series of devastating volcanic eruptions.
