UPDATE: A week after he was rushed to the hospital, rapper DMX has died, his family said in a statement on Friday.
A statement from relatives said he died “with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.”
On Thursday several persons took to social media to express their sympathies to his family at the news of his passing; however, DMX's manager said news of his death was rumors.
The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, had struggled with drug addiction since his teenage years; however, his lawyer, Murray Richman, said he could not confirm reports that DMX overdosed.

DMX (50), who had a heart attack following an apparent drug overdose at his home in New York last Friday, remains hospitalized on life support.
The rapper who emerged big on the music scene in the 90s has been in a coma and was set to undergo brain function tests on Wednesday, New York Times reported.
Several entertainers have been showing their support for DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, since he has been hospitalized.
According to the New York Times, hundreds of fans joined the rapper’s family in front of White Plains Hospital on Monday to play his music and pray for him. The crowds were so large they held up traffic at points. Vehicles that passed by, including a fire truck from the city’s fire department, honked loudly in support as the crowds cheered and chanted “DMX.”
