New physiotherapy facility for Sister Islands

(CMR) Residents of the Sister Islands seeking physiotherapy services are set to benefit from the new Faith Hospital annex that houses Physiotherapy and Materials Management.

The new building includes a modern, well-designed treatment room along with a physiotherapy gym that overlooks the beautiful landscaping, with plenty of storage space for the safe storing of the hospital’s medical supplies.

“This is an essential development because of growing patient demand for physiotherapy on the Sister Islands,” stated Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee, who delivered remarks at the facility’s ribbon cutting on Friday, 26 March 2021.

“With an aging population and increase in patient numbers, it is really important for there to be rehabilitation services close to home for people who have had joint replacements, strokes, or heart-related issues. This expansion, along with other new facilities at the Faith Hospital, are much welcomed achievements,” he added.

Patients visiting the new physiotherapy department will further benefit from the HSA’s investment in additional state-of-the-art equipment for neuro and cardiac rehabilitation and recovery after joint replacement as well as general mobility issues.

Director of Sister Islands Health Services Dr. Srirangan Velusamy stated that the annex is a milestone for the Faith Hospital as it supports the Sister Islands’ growing healthcare needs.

He said that the pandemic has really demonstrated that investment in healthcare infrastructure is vital for the Cayman Islands.

“While we are happy with this new building, we still have a much bigger vision for our hospital,” Dr. Velusamy said.

HSA CEO Lizzette Yearwood reiterated, “This is just the beginning; over the next two years, we aim to expand our Accident & Emergency and Imaging services at Faith Hospital as well as a number of other major infrastructure projects in Grand Cayman. She added that one of the Board’s ongoing strategic objectives is to enhance the patient and staff experience as well as operational efficiency”.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Premier Moses Kirkconnell, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, the District Commissioner of the Sister Islands Ernie Scott, and Deputy District Commissioner Mark Tibbetts, the HSA Board, and senior managers as well as a large number of persons from the Cayman Brac community.
