(CMR) Former Governor of the Cayman Islands, Bruce Dinwiddy, CMG, who helped lead the Cayman Islands through the recovery process in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, passed away today, Thursday, 1 April 2021.
Dinwiddy served as Governor of the Cayman Islands from May 2002 – October 2005.
Premier Alden McLaughlin said the people of the Cayman Islands will always remember Dinwiddy for his many contributions to assist the community after the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
“His compassion, humility and commitment to serving the Cayman Islands will never be forgotten,” the premier said.
McLaughlin said the former Governor continued to be a friend of the Cayman Islands long after his tenure as Governor ended, making many trips back.
He also worked to support the Cayman Islands Government Office in London as an active member of the Friends of the Cayman Islands.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Cayman Islands, I offer deepest condolences to his wife Emma and extended family,” McLaughlin said.
To mark his passing, the Cayman Islands flag will fly at half-mast alongside the Union Jack on all Government buildings from the remainder of today and all day on Tuesday, 6 April.
