(CMR) The driver of the car that transported a hitman to a church in Jamaica where he murdered a woman has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Andrea Lowe-Garwood (51), a credit card manager at the National Comercial Bank, was shot multiple times by a lone gunman as she worshipped at the Agape Christian Fellowship in Trelawny on Sunday, January 31.
Investigations lead police to Lowe-Garwood's stepson and two other accomplices, including the getaway driver Leon Hines.
Hines was sentenced to six years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. He was also sentenced to one year for accessory after the fact to murder. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Hines managed to get reduced prison time after securing a plea deal last month; the deal resulted in four of the six charges against him being dropped by the prosecution.
He pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to murder, murder, accessory before the fact to murder, and misprision of felon.
Hines is expected to be a witness in the trial of Javan ‘Janoy’ Garwood, 29, the stepson of the deceased, and Dwight Bingham, who were also charged in relation to Lowe-Garwood's killing.
Garwood has been charged with murder and conspiracy to murder, and Bingham has been charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
