(CMR) At least eight people, several of them reportedly Asian women, were killed in three shootings at spas in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.
Authorities were investigating whether the incidents that also injured several other people were linked.
Two women were killed at Young’s Asian Massage in Acworth, while another died en route to a nearby hospital, police said.
The Cherokee County sheriff’s office said two others were injured in the shooting.
A suspect, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long, was taken into custody following a police chase.
About an hour after the first shooting, four women were shot at two spas on the same street in Atlanta, three at Gold Spa and one in Aroma Therapy Spa across the block.
Police said it was still unclear if Long had been involved in the other shootings that occurred about 30 miles from the Acworth shooting.
Authorities have not determined if the shootings were connected; however, there has been an increase in Anti-Asian violence over the past year, stemming from response to the coronavirus.
